Story allusion
Su Qin was from Luoyang in the Warring States period and studied under Guiguzi. He tried to persuade the king of Qin but failed, spent his money, and returned home in poverty. His wife and sister-in-law treated him coldly. Ashamed and angry, he studied hard, even pricking his thigh with an awl to stay awake. Later he promoted the alliance of six states against Qin and eventually wore the seals of six chancellorships.
