This lot is also known as: Xue Pinggui Returns Home (Xue Pinggui is also referred to as Tao Yuanming). During the Tang Dynasty, Prime Minister Wang Yun held a ball-throwing ceremony from a decorated tower to choose a son-in-law. By chance, the ball fell upon the beggar Xue Pinggui. Wang Yun regretted the match, but his third daughter, Bao Chuan, vowed to keep her promise, and father and daughter ultimately severed ties. After leaving home, Bao Chuan married Pinggui and lived together in a broken kiln. One day, Pinggui joined the army, originally as a rear camp commander, but was demoted by Wang Yun to a foot soldier vanguard and sent to campaign against Xiliang. Later, he was harmed by his brother-in-law but was saved by Princess Daizhan, and they became husband and wife. For eighteen years, Bao Chuan alone guarded the cold kiln. Later, upon hearing news of Pinggui's death, she wept and bowed to the west. Unexpectedly, a red wild goose flew south, and Bao Chuan tied a letter written in blood to its foot, asking it to deliver the message. Pinggui, now the King of Xiliang, shot the red wild goose and obtained the blood letter. Overwhelmed with grief, he fled back to his homeland, where husband and wife were reunited. He was also ennobled by the Tang Emperor, finally vindicating his honor.
