Gonglu (拱禄)​

Function​

Gonglu (拱禄) is an auspicious star in Bazi (Eight Characters), symbolizing diligence, positivity, and good fortune. Individuals with Gonglu in their destiny typically possess a hardworking and upward-moving character, unafraid of challenges and growing stronger through adversity. Their careers tend to be smooth, allowing them to achieve significant accomplishments. Gonglu endows the destiny holder with relentless motivation and a spirit of long-term effort, often enabling them to stand out in difficult situations. The influence of Gonglu can bring wealth and prosperity to the individual, but it requires proper alignment with the month order and the interactions of the Five Elements to fully realize its potential.

Method of Identification​

The identification of Gonglu is based on the combination of the Day Pillar and the Hour Pillar, specifically listed as follows for five days and five hours:

  • Guihai Day, Guichou Hour, Gongzi Lu;
  • Dingsi Day, Dingwei Hour, Gongwu Lu;
  • Wuchen Day, Wuwu Hour, Gongsi Lu;
  • Guichou Day, Guihai Hour, Gongzi Lu;
  • Jiwei Day, Jisi Hour, Gongwu Lu.

The effectiveness of Gonglu is usually related to the alignment with the month order, so it is necessary to check whether the month order and the Five Elements in the natal chart support the energy of Gonglu.

The "San Ming Tong Hui" explains that Gonglu requires the same stem for both day and hour, and it should connect with the month order. When the natal chart is strong and situated in a prosperous and noble location, the effect of Gonglu becomes particularly powerful. However, if faced with conflicts, destructive influences, Yang Ren (羊刃), or Qi Sha (七杀), the auspicious energy of Gonglu may be weakened, especially when encountering voids, which can significantly reduce its fortune. An ancient poem mentions, "Day and hour both embrace Gonglu in the courtyard, the golden cabinet hides the pearl pattern," implying that those with Gonglu in their destiny, if they ensure proper support from the month order, can enjoy great honor and fortune, with a brighter path in life. However, if disrupted by Yang Ren or voids, or interfered by Shang Guan (伤官), the fortune may be threatened.
